Tennessee 42, Kennesaw State 9
KNOXVILLE — Faizon Brandon threw for a touchdown and ran for another and Daune Morris rushed for 116 yards as No. 15 Tennessee beat Kennesaw State 42-9 on Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee finished nonconference play 3-0. Kennesaw State dropped to 1-2.
Brandon completed 18 of 26 passes for 178 yards and a 13-yard touchdown to Braylon Staley. He added 11 carries for 47 yards and a 5-yard scoring run in the third quarter. He did not throw an interception.
Morris carried 14 times for 116 yards. His 42-yard touchdown run in the third quarter made it 28-3. DeSean Bishop scored on a 3-yard run on the opening drive, then left with a hip injury in the second quarter. He returned briefly and finished with nine carries for 42 yards. Hunter Barnes added seven carries for 63 yards and a touchdown.
Tennessee rushed for 268 yards and outgained the Owls 446-291.
Kennesaw State, coached by former Tennessee assistant Jerry Mack, got three field goals from Daniel Kinney. Quarterback Rickie Collins completed 22 of 34 passes for 189 yards. Zion Booker caught 10 passes for 78 yards. The Owls did not score a touchdown.
Staley led Tennessee receivers with four catches for 59 yards. Mike Matthews had four for 41.
