Tennessee 45, Georgia Tech 24
ATLANTA — DeSean Bishop ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns and freshman Faizon Brandon threw two scoring passes as No. 18 Tennessee beat Georgia Tech 45-24 on Saturday night at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Tennessee improved to 2-0. Georgia Tech fell to 0-2.
Brandon completed 10 of 21 passes for 148 yards with no interceptions. His first throw of the night was a 25-yard touchdown to tight end Ethan Davis, who later left the game with a knee injury. Brandon later hit Braylon Staley for a 20-yard score that made it 24-10 late in the second quarter.
Bishop carried 20 times for 147 yards. He scored on runs of 17 and 29 yards. Daune Morris added 10 carries for 98 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown in the final two minutes that closed it at 45-24.
Tennessee rushed for 299 yards on 45 carries.
Georgia Tech led 10-7 after a field goal and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. DeJuan Lane intercepted Alberto Mendoza and returned it 41 yards for a score, and Tennessee did not trail again.
Mendoza finished 26 of 40 for 221 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Justice Haynes ran for 81 yards and a touchdown and caught a 2-yard scoring pass.
Tennessee was flagged 14 times for 142 yards.
