Tennessee slipped three spots to No. 17 in the Associated Press poll released Sunday, one day after a 20 to 17 loss to top ranked Texas at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols are 3 and 1 and 0 and 1 in the SEC. They came into the weekend at No. 14. Texas stayed No. 1 and picked up 62 first place votes after improving to 4 and 0.
The drop is a light one for a loss to the No. 1 team in the country, in a game that was tied in the fourth quarter and still alive on the final snap. Voters did not bury Tennessee. They also did not ignore an offense that managed 221 yards and gave up 10 sacks.
Around them, the top of the poll barely moved. Georgia stayed No. 2. Notre Dame stayed No. 3. Miami climbed to No. 4. Ohio State is No. 5. Indiana is No. 6. Alabama moved up to No. 7. Florida made the biggest jump in the country, from No. 21 to No. 8 after a 4 and 0 start. Ole Miss fell to No. 9. BYU is No. 10.
The rest of the SEC around Tennessee: LSU is No. 11, Mississippi State came in at No. 16, Kentucky is No. 24, and Missouri is No. 25.
Tennessee is back in Neyland on Saturday against Auburn.
